About

WebP is usually 25–35% smaller than a JPEG of the same quality, and much smaller than a PNG, while still keeping transparency. Every current browser can show it.

Resize to 832px wide scales the image down to 832 pixels across and keeps its proportions, which suits a typical blog column. Images already narrower than that are left at their own size, never stretched.

Your image is converted in the browser and never uploaded. Safari can’t save WebP files this way, so use Chrome, Firefox or Edge for this tool.

Questions

Does it keep transparency?

Yes. Transparent areas in a PNG stay transparent in the WebP.

Why doesn't it work in Safari?

Safari can show WebP images but can’t create them from a web page. It hands back a PNG instead, so the tool stops and tells you.
